    Laudato Si -

    Protecting our common world

Since the decision was made to give a new trust to the Congregation at Nano Nagle Birthplace of

taking care of the earth and towards issues related to Ecology and Justice for the environment.

Many steps have been taken to ensure we are protecting our bit of this beautiful planet and teaching others to do what they can to appreciate God’s work

In refurbishing the Centre in 2006 – 2008, it was decided not to use fossil fuels

to provide space and water heating. Heating is provided by a geothermal heating ,wood pellet boiler and solar panels.

A small windmill on the gable end of the prayer room provides light for the prayer room. The electricity generated by the windmill is stored in batteries in the attic.

A wetland system is provided to help deal with the sewage from the Centre. You can see the reed bed in the field below the sun dial. This is a natural way of dealing with sewage in which the root systems of the reeds, bulrushes, wild iris and other plants have the capacity to detoxify the sewage as it seeps slowly through the reed bed.

Our next steps are to encourage our community to “ protect our common home” Pope Francis - Laudato Si
